If experts are to be believed, the Aam Aadmi Party is going to benefit the most from the Congress fight. Shiromani Akali Dal and Bahujan Samaj Party together will not be of many benefits. At the same time, due to the farmers' movement, the road to Punjab is still difficult for the BJP.
In the 2017 assembly elections, the Aam Aadmi Party won 20 seats in the state and emerged as the single largest opposition party. The AAP is also trying hard to take advantage of the instability in Congress since the beginning of this year. Party experts say that AAP is slowly gaining ground in large parts of Punjab. Here the party is not only continuing its election campaign on the basis of anti-government sentiments but is also appealing to the people to give a chance to a new party. Like every state, the Aam Aadmi Party has promised free electricity in Punjab too.
Experts say that all this will definitely help the Aam Aadmi Party. Apart from this, there is no old burden on the party like the Akalis. The Shiromani Akali Dal was in the NDA when the Agriculture Act was enacted, due to which the party is still facing opposition.
The tension between Amarinder Singh and Navjot Singh Sidhu has been going on since the year 2019. However, in May this year, the matter escalated further. There is also an allegation on Amarinder Singh that he did not take any action in the case of police firing on people protesting against the sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib in the year 2015.
The Aam Aadmi Party has been continuously attacking both the Congress and the Akali Dal on these issues. Ashutosh Kumar, professor of political science at Panjab University, says that the Aam Aadmi Party is going to benefit because of the split in the Congress.
However, the Aam Aadmi Party also has its own challenges. The first challenge is that the party in the state only has a chief minister's face. Apart from this, the party also wants to run Punjab from Delhi. This intention had damaged the party in the year 2017 as well. Delhi CM and Aam Aadmi Party convener Arvind Kejriwal had announced in June this year that the party's CM candidate in Punjab would be a Sikh.
