The by-election for the Bhawanipur Assembly seat of West Bengal has been completed. On one hand, Mamata Banerjee filed her nomination papers in Bhawanipur, while Priyanka Tibrewal of the Bharatiya Janata Party will file her nomination papers for the by-elections in the Bhawanipur seat on Monday. Tebriwal, a lawyer, has been fielded against West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee. Mamta has already filed her nomination papers.
Tibrewal started his campaign on Sunday by erecting the BJP's lotus symbol on a wall in Bhawanipur. "I will file my nomination tomorrow. People of West Bengal have a right to live. Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress is snatching this right from them," she had said on Sunday. Tibrewal also said, "I am fighting for the people of Bengal".
The by-elections for Bhawanipur will be held on September 30 along with two other constituencies, Jangipur and Samsherganj. The counting of votes will take place on October 3, a week before the start of the Durga Puja celebrations in Bengal.
Priyanka Tibriwal, who was the legal advisor to BJP leader Babul Supriyo, had joined BJP in August 2014. She is said to be inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and considers him her a role model in politics. Priyanka joined the BJP only after the advice of leader-turned-politician BJP MP Babul Supriyo. In 2015, Priyanka Tibriwal contested the Kolkata Municipal Council election from Ward No. 58 (Entlee) as a BJP candidate but lost to Swapan Samdar of Trinamool Congress. During his six-year tenure in the BJP, he handled many important tasks and in August 2020, he was made the Vice President of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha in West Bengal.
It is worth noting that this by-election is very important for Mamata Banerjee's credibility and to remain on the post of CM. He had to face defeat in the Nandigram seat in the results of the assembly elections in May. Even after this, she became the CM. In such a situation, it is necessary for him to become an MLA within 6 months of becoming CM. Therefore, the election of Bhawanipur is considered very important for Mamta Banerjee.
