Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a virtual meeting with senior officials from over 40 districts across the country on Wednesday. The pace of corona vaccination has been very slow in these districts. According to reports, many Chief Ministers are also likely to attend this meeting to be held around 12 noon.
According to a release issued by the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), the focus of the meeting will be on districts where less than 50 percent of the adult population has received only one dose of the vaccine. They have less coverage of the second dose. Most of these districts are from Jharkhand, Manipur, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Maharashtra, Meghalaya and other states.
With 16.1%, Nagaland's Kifir district has the lowest coverage of at least one dose of the vaccine, according to government data as of October 27. It is followed by Araria of Bihar with a slightly better number (49.6%). Some of the major districts in Delhi are North West (48.2%), Aurangabad (46.5%), Nanded (48.4%), Akola (49.3%), Deoghar (44.2%) and West Singhbhum (47.8%). The districts which have to reach the national average as per government data.
India's overall vaccination coverage exceeded 1.07 billion (107,25,41,626) on Tuesday. The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare gave this information on Tuesday. The authorities administered more than 37 lakh (37,38,574) vaccine doses in a single day (till 7 pm on November 2nd). Data from the Union Ministry shows that 73,61,08,324 first doses of vaccine have been given in India so far. At the same time, 33,64,33,302 people have got the second dose.
On Monday, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said that 78 per cent of India's population has been given the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, while 38 per cent have received both the shots.
The government had launched a nationwide vaccination program on 16 January. During the first phase of the campaign, only health workers and frontline workers were allowed to attend to it.
