Taking a big decision, Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi has given a clear message to state Congress President Navjot Singh Sidhu that his interference in the government will not work. In fact, CM Channi has rejected the resignation of APS Deol from the post of Advocate General of the state. Sidhu was a constant attacker on APS Deol and one of the reasons behind his resignation from the post of Punjab Congress Chief was the appointment of APS Deol. Sidhu had alleged that APS Deol had defended the two accused in the Kotkapura firing.
Channi's decision is being seen as a response to Sidhu's public attack on the state government. On Monday itself, Sidhu took a jibe at the Punjab Chief Minister for reducing the electricity rates in the state. According to the news of NDTV, the rhetoric given by Sidhu about the Punjab government is the most important reason behind not accepting the resignation of APS Deol.
APS Deol, a senior advocate of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, was appointed in September following the resignation of Atul Nanda as the Advocate General of Punjab. Channi had made the government appointments during the reshuffle after Captain Amarinder Singh's resignation as chief minister in September.
However, opposition to the appointment of APS Deol started within the Congress party. In the year 2015, APS Deol had argued in the court for former police officer Sumedh Singh Saini and Inspector General Paramraj Singh Umranangal, accused in the Kotkapura fire incident case. On Monday itself, Navjot Singh Sidhu's wife Navjot Kaur had welcomed Deol's resignation.
Meanwhile, Navjot Singh Sidhu has gone on Kedarnath Yatra on Tuesday. Before leaving for the yatra, Sidhu said that the well being of Punjab was paramount for him. He said that there is no religious path greater than the path of duty. Earlier, Sidhu met senior party leader Harish Rawat at his residence in Dehradun.
