BJP reached EC before Bhawanipur by-election, said- impose section 144 and central force should be deployed

Yesterday was the last day of campaigning for the Bhawanipore by-election and a clash broke out between BJP and TMC workers in Kolkata on the same day. During this, there was a scuffle with former BJP president Dilip Ghosh. Now the BJP has turned to the Election Commission regarding this ruckus. A BJP delegation met Election Commission officials in Kolkata and appealed for enforcement of Section 144 in Bhawanipur constituency, the day of the by-election on 30 September. Along with this, the BJP also demanded the presence of central forces inside the booths.

The BJP delegation was led by Swapna Dasgupta and also included Shishir Bajoria and Pratap Banerjee. The meeting took place hours after BJP leader Dilip Ghosh had claimed that he was attacked by members of the ruling Trinamool Congress during an election campaign in Bhawanipore. The BJP delegation also demanded that central forces should be present inside the booths and that Kolkata Police should not take active participation in the security arrangements in Bhawanipore.
Recently, the BJP also wrote to the Election Commission alleging that its Bhawanipore candidate Priyanka Tibrewal was "attacked and molested" by Kolkata Police's DCP South on September 23.

The letter submitted to the Election Commission mentioned: "Our candidate Mrs. Priyanka Tebrewal and MP Dr. Sukant Majumdar State President, Mr. Jyotirmoy Singh Mahto and Mr. Arjun Singh were molested and physically assaulted. This letter demands necessary action and your intervention. and to bring to your immediate notice that a free and fair election has been openly violated with intent to prevent and to create disturbance during the election."

The party demanded that DCP South, Akash Magharia and other Kolkata Police officers present on the spot be identified and removed from election duty immediately. He also demanded suspension of the officers.
