Gujarat: AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi came to meet Atiq Ahmed, lodged in Sabarmati Jail, shocked, did not get permission to meet

All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi is busy preparing for the upcoming assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh. Under this, on Monday, he reached the doorstep of Sabarmati Jail in Gujarat, where UP's Bahubali leader and former MP Atiq Ahmed is lodged. However, Owaisi had to return disappointed from here. The jail administration did not allow the meeting citing the Corona guidelines and other rules.

Owaisi reached Ahmedabad on Monday to meet party workers, office bearers, and supporters. He was also going to visit Sabarmati Jail recently to meet Atiq Ahmed, a member of AIMIM. AIMIM's Gujarat chief Sabir Kabaliwala said, "The Sabarmati jail administration did not allow Owaisi to meet Atiq Ahmed citing the Corona protocol and no blood relation."

He said that Owaisi had sought permission to meet Atiq Ahmed in the jail premises, but it was denied at the last moment. Ahmed has several criminal cases registered against him and was shifted from Allahabad Naini Jail to Sabarmati Jail in June 2019. Atiq, who was arrested in the case of kidnapping and torture of a businessman, was shifted to Gujarat in the direction of the Supreme Court.

Owaisi is preparing to contest the proposed assembly elections in Gujarat at the end of next year, apart from the UP elections to be held a few months later. Ahmed's wife Shaista Praveen had joined AIMIM in Lucknow this month. Atiq Ahmed has earlier also been in the Samajwadi Party and Apna Dal (Sonewal faction).
