The Indian Army is continuously engaged in a major operation in the Uri sector of Jammu and Kashmir. Internet and mobile phone services have been snapped in the Uri sector following an infiltration attempt by a group of heavily armed terrorists. An infiltration attempt was reportedly made along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Uri sector. According to officials, the anti-infiltration operation is going on in the area for the last 30 hours. Additional army force has reportedly been called in and a large area has been cordoned off. According to the army, this is the second infiltration attempt this year.
Speaking on the current situation, a senior Army Commander said that this year there has been no ceasefire violation and no incidents of provocation on that side of the border have come to the fore. Lt Gen DP Pandey, General Officer Commanding, 15 Corps said, "There has been no ceasefire violation this year.
He said, unlike in the past, there have been few infiltration attempts this year and they are looking for the infiltrators in Uri sector. General Pandey said, "There is an operation going on in Uri for the last 24 hours, in which we thought an infiltration attempt has been made. We are looking for them. Are they on this site or have they gone back after trying, that?" The issue has not been clarified or verified on the ground."
The infiltration attempt was detected late Saturday on the occasion of the fifth anniversary of the Uri attack, which took place on September 18, 2016, after two suicide bombers attacked an army installation that killed 19 soldiers, officials said. India responded by conducting surgical strikes across the Line of Control in which many terrorists were killed.
