US military chief had twice made secret phone calls to China out of fear, Trump should not start war: Report

The country's relations with China reached their worst during the tenure of former United States  President Donald Trump. A trade war broke out between the two countries and it has now been revealed that the situation had worsened so much that the United States Army chief even twice made secret calls to his Chinese counterpart fearing a war might break out. A new Washington Post report said that the top United States general feared that Trump might wage war with China in view of his possible defeat in the election.

According to the report, United States General Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, called General Li Zhuocheng of the People's Liberation Army, four days before the US election i.e. on 30 October 2020 and again on 8 January i.e. when Trump's supporters called the US Capitol. was attacked.

During the call, Millie assured Lee that the United States was stable and that it was not going to attack China in any way. He also said that if there is an attack, he will alert his counterpart in time.

The report is based on a new book titled 'Peril' written by journalists Bob Woodward and Robert Costa. Both the journalists have claimed that they have written this book after talking to 200 sources. The book is scheduled to launch next week.

However, Trump has cast doubt on the story in a statement, calling it a concoction. He has said that if this story is true then General Miley should be tried for treason. Trump has also said that he never thought of attacking China. General Millie's office declined to comment.

Republican Senator Marco Rubio has urged President Joe Biden to immediately remove General Millie.
