West Bengal BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari has said that the party will not field any candidate against Trinamool Congress's Sushmita Dev in the Rajya Sabha bypolls. Suvendu Adhikari said in a tweet on Monday, "BJP will not nominate any candidate for the Rajya Sabha by-election to be held in West Bengal. The result is predetermined. Our focus is to ensure that the unelected chief minister gets elected once again. Jai Ma Kali."
With the BJP deciding not to nominate a candidate for the vacant Rajya Sabha seat from West Bengal, TMC's Sushmita Dev is expected to win unopposed. Meanwhile, Sushmita Dev filed her nomination for the Rajya Sabha by-election on Monday.
The TMC had last week nominated Sushmita Dev, who recently joined the party after leaving the Congress. Manas Bhunia's TMC has made him its candidate for the by-election for the Rajya Sabha seat that fell vacant after winning the assembly elections from Sabang in Paschim Medinipur. .
Bypolls to six Rajya Sabha seats, including one in Bengal, will be held on October 4. Sushmita Dev, who was the national spokesperson of the Congress party and the head of its women's wing, joined the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress last month.
He has been entrusted with the task of looking after the operations of TMC in Assam and Tripura.
