The end of the second wave or the beginning of the third wave? Corona's active cases lowest in 6 months

There has been some relief from the decreasing corona virus cases in India, but the threat of third wave of corona is not averted yet. For the first time in six months, the active cases of Kovid in the country have come below three lakh. There are 20 states where more than 100 cases are being registered and 10 such where less than 100 cases are being reported. It is as much a matter of joy as it is a matter of concern because even before the arrival of the second wave, the maths of affairs in February was the same. Even during that time, more than half of the corona cases were from Kerala and Maharashtra.

According to the data of the Ministry of Health, the number of active cases of corona in India was 2,99,620 on Sunday. Data shows that this is the lowest number of active cases in 191 days (six months), even as India recorded 26,041 new cases on Sunday. The total number of reported coronavirus cases now stands at 3,36,78,786, while the death toll has risen to 4,47,194 with 276 fresh deaths.
This was the fourth consecutive week of decline in cases for a week now after seeing a massive surge in corona in Kerala. In May, during the peak of the second wave of the pandemic, the number of active cases had risen to 37.45 lakh here.

Despite Kerala reporting an unusually high number of cases, active cases were showing a steady decline since May. Even now, around 55 per cent of all active cases in the country are coming from Kerala. Till Sunday there were 1.63 lakh active cases.

There was a similar situation in February, just before the arrival of the second wave. At least 20 states are now reporting more than 100 cases and 10 others are below 100, even in February with more than half the caseloads being from Kerala and Maharashtra.

On Sunday, 18 states and union territories did not report any deaths. This trend has been observed for over a week now. But the number of daily deaths in India is still over 200, with Kerala accounting for close to 60 per cent. Of the 276 new deaths reported on Sunday, 165 are from Kerala and 36 from Maharashtra.
