According to the data released by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) on Wednesday, an increase of 28 percent has been registered in the cases of crime during the year 2020 affected by Corona as compared to 2019. An average of 80 murders took place daily in the country in 2020 and a total of 29,193 people were murdered. In this case, Uttar Pradesh is at the fore in the list of states. At the same time, the highest number of kidnapping incidents also took place in Uttar Pradesh. According to the bureau data, a total of 66,01,285 cognizable offenses were registered in the year 2020, including 42,54,356 cases under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and 23,46,929 under Special and Local Law (SLL).
19 percent reduction in kidnapping cases
NCRB data shows that there has been a 19 percent reduction in kidnapping cases in 2020 as compared to 2019. In 2020, 84,805 kidnapping cases were registered while in 2019 there were 1,05,036 FIRs. Statistics show that Uttar Pradesh recorded the highest number of kidnapping cases at 12,913 in 2020. After this 9,309 cases were registered in West Bengal, 8,103 in Maharashtra, 7,889 in Bihar, 7,320 in Madhya Pradesh. As per the data, 4,062 cases of kidnapping have been registered in the national capital. The NCRB said there were 88,590 victims in 84,805 kidnapping cases in the country. He told that most of them i.e. 56,591 victims were children.
Uttar Pradesh at number one in murder cases
According to the data, 3779 cases of murder were registered in Uttar Pradesh in 2020. This was followed by Bihar with 3,150 murders, Maharashtra 2,163, Madhya Pradesh 2,101, and West Bengal 1,948. 472 cases of murder were registered in Delhi in 2020. Last year, the lockdown was imposed in entire India including the national capital due to Kovid-19.
Most rapes in Rajasthan
According to the NCRB data, an average of 77 rape cases was registered per day across the country in 2020. A total of 28,046 cases of rape were registered last year. The highest number of such cases in the country were registered in Rajasthan and second in Uttar Pradesh. The NCRB said that a total of 3,71,503 cases of crime against women were registered across the country last year, up from 4,05,326 in 2019 and 3,78,236 in 2018.
