Covaccine not approved again, WHO asked for more information from Bharat Biotech
The Technical Advisory Group of the World Health Organization (WHO) on Tuesday sought additional clarification from Bharat Biotech for including India's indigenously manufactured vaccine in the list of emergency use. The Technical Advisory Group will now meet on November 3 for the final evaluation.
Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech company, which developed the vaccine, submitted an EOI (Expression of Interest) to the WHO on April 19 for inclusion of the vaccine in the Emergency Use List (EUL). The Technical Advisory Group met on Tuesday to review data on covaccine for inclusion of India's indigenous vaccine in the emergency use list.
Responding to an email query by PTI-language regarding the inclusion of the vaccine in the list of emergency use, WHO said, 'The Technical Advisory Group met today (Tuesday) and decided that the vaccine In view of the global use of the product, additional clarification needs to be sought from the manufacturer for final benefit-risk assessment. It said the group is likely to get this clarification from the producer by the end of this week, which is targeted to meet on November 3.
