Indian Army will be equipped with 'Made in India' equipment, PM Modi will inaugurate 7 companies on Dussehra
Indian Army will be equipped with 'Made in India' equipment, PM Modi will inaugurate 7 companies on Dussehra
The process of formation of seven new defense companies has been completed to achieve self-reliance in defense production. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will dedicate these companies to the nation in a program to be held on October 15. These companies have been formed by merging the existing 41 Ordnance Factories. Also, the new companies will be 100 percent government, but they will work on the lines of corporate. The government believes that with the formation of new companies, the traditional nature of Ordnance Factory will end and new companies will be able to work in a professional manner according to the existing requirements.
According to Defense Ministry sources, in June this year, the Security Affairs Cabinet had taken the decision to corporatise the Ordnance Factory. Seven new companies have been formed by categorizing the existing 41 factories into seven parts according to their functioning. For example, a new company has been formed by merging a factory engaged in similar work.
According to sources, out of the seven corporate defense companies that will come into existence on October 15, one company will be fully engaged in the production of ammunition and other explosives. It has been named as Munition India Limited. The second company Armored Vehicle Corporation Limited will do the work of manufacturing vehicles such as tanks, combat vehicles, anti-tunnel vehicles etc. The third company, Advance Weapons and Equipment India Limited, will manufacture various types of weapons. This will include the manufacture of weapons ranging from pistols, revolvers to large calibers.
Defense Ministry sources said that the fourth company, Troop Comforts Ltd., will manufacture materials for the use of soldiers. Actually, even today, from the clothes and shoes of the soldiers, all the materials are imported from abroad, but the new company will manufacture them all in the country. The fifth company, Yantra India Limited, will manufacture auxiliary defense materials. The sixth company, India Optel Limited, will undertake the manufacture of optical electronics equipment. At the same time, the seventh company, Glyard India Limited, will be given the responsibility of manufacturing the parachute.
Ordnance factory's existence will end
With this, the existence of the ordnance factory, which is about two hundred years old, will also end with the formation of new companies. In fact, despite all the efforts of the government, the Ordnance Factory could not prepare itself for a competitive role. But it is also true that during the last two hundred years they have met all kinds of emergency needs of the armed forces.
Ordnance factory protest
This decision is being constantly opposed by the Ordnance Factory. However, the government has made a new law to ban protests in defense installations. Due to this the protest did not work much. Although the government has already assured all 70 thousand personnel of the Ordnance Factory that they will not suffer any kind of loss, but their symbolic protest is going on. He has also announced a protest against this program to be held at DRDO Bhawan on October 15.
