At the same time, according to a report, a few dozen health workers, some politicians, and their employees in Mumbai, Maharashtra have taken the third dose of the vaccine in the past. Although a booster shot is being administered in many western countries, it remains a topic of discussion in India. The Center on Thursday said that this is not a priority.
Multiple sources have confirmed to the Times of India that healthcare workers have taken the third shot at various hospitals. They have done this either without registering on Co-Win or by using a different phone number. It is believed that many people got the antibody level tested before taking it. A senior doctor told TOI, “The list mainly consists of doctors who completed both their doses by February and on examination their antibody levels were found to decrease”.
A young politician, her husband, and staff members are also reported to have taken a booster jab. A hospital source said that Covishield has been an alternative to a booster dose.
He told that in some cases the 11th dose has been taken out of the vaccine vial for this purpose. Another hospital reported that in some other cases the third dose was obtained from vials that had only a few doses left and there was no one to receive them. “Health workers have seen cases of breakthrough infections among their colleagues and they are concerned about the new variants,” he said.
