The Nobel Prize in Medicine has been announced. United States of America David Julius and Erdam Petaposian have been declared joint winners of the 2021 Nobel Prize in Medicine. He has been given this prestigious award for discovering the receptors for temperature and touch in the body.
The prize was announced on Monday by Thomas Perlman, the Secretary-General of the Nobel Committee.
Patrick Ernfors of the Nobel Committee said that Julius took the help of capsaicin, the active ingredient of pepper, to identify the nerve sensor. The skin responds to heat from this nerve sensor.
"Petapochion found pressure and sensitive sensors in the cells that respond to mechanical stimulation," he said.
Perlman said, 'These research have really revealed a great mystery of nature. This discovery is very important for our existence.
Last year, both of them jointly won the Kavli Award for Neuroscience.
In this award, the winner is presented with a gold medal and 10 million Swedish kronor (United States of America $ 1.14 million i.e. about 8 and a half million rupees).
In the coming days, Nobel Prizes will also be announced for outstanding work in the fields of physics, chemistry, literature, peace and economics.
